What is Melasma?
A deep form of hyperpigmentation and brown discoloration on facial skin, most commonly appearing on the cheeks, bridge of the nose, forehead, chin, and above the upper lip. Hormone changes along with sun exposure are triggers for Melasma.
How Does Spectra Laser Treatment Work?
The “gold standard” Spectra Laser is FDA-approved and very effective in reducing the appearance of hyperpigmentation, brown spots, freckles and deeper pigment such as Melasma on the face. The laser targets and breaks down the pigment into smaller particles that can be removed naturally by the body. It leaves skin warm, bright and smooth. Treatments typically have minimal to no downtime but may include temporary redness and a mild sunburn like effect that can last 2-24 hours afterwards. Pigmented lesions may create prolonged heat, puffiness and a mild crusting depending on treatment level. Pigment changes can occur with the treatment of melasma and areas can darken as the pigment is being targeted by the laser. This darkening to pigmentation is temporary and can resolve over 4-6 weeks. Individuals receiving treatment should always wear sunblock if going into the sun and avoid sun exposure which can retrigger pigmentation.
