Our experienced providers direct the laser at treatment areas to produce a beam of light that penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the hair follicles. Without damaging the surrounding tissue, the controlled pulse of light penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the hair follicles. The heat generated in the process discourages and ultimately destroys the hair in a specific growth phase and its potential for re-growth. In a free cosmetic consultation, we help you establish a treatment plan based on hair color, texture, amount of hair growth, and target areas. Prior to treatment patients discontinue waxing or plucking and arrive with the treatment area freshly shaved.
The treatment is well tolerated by most patients since there is only a mild sting or slight snap sensation when the laser is pulsed over the treatment area. Most patients say the sensation is more tolerable than waxing or tweezing. We provide ice to the treatment area before and after to minimize any discomfort. Topical numbing cream is available for more sensitive areas if needed.
The laser only affects hair follicles that are in a specific growth phase which is why more than one treatment is needed to maximize hair reduction. Based on the hair growth cycles, density of hair, and treatment area, your cosmetic provider and laser specialist will recommend the number of required treatments and spacing of the appointments to ensure maximum reduction at each visit.
