SPECTRA for Melasma

Many people struggle to control dark colored patches on their face. This is a common condition called Melasma.  It’s brought on by an excess of pigments within the skin layers. The amount of brown pigment, known as melanin, determines visible differences in skin color.  But if you have an excess of melanin in a particular area, it results in Melasma.  It’s challenging to treat but the new SPECTRA laser at Olympic Dermatology can help.

New and engineered for performance, its official name is the Dual-pulsed Q-switched Nd: YAG Spectra laser by Lutronic.  Its beam profile and power options ensure that the energy is delivered efficiently to maximize effect while minimizing damage to surrounding tissue.  SPECTRA is FDA-approved to treat Melasma and other pigment skin conditions including PIH, freckles or brown spots.  The treatments provide patients with a variety of benefits.  It’s a fast, no-downtime procedure that can be performed multiple times and is safe on many skin types.

At Olympic Dermatology we’re always introducing new and improved ways to help our patients.  In fact, studies show an improved success rate for reducing facial Melasma in all skin types can be achieved with a combination of Microdermabrasion (to increase cell turnover rate) immediately followed by a gentle SPECTRA laser treatment. The result:  pigment is fragmented and subsequently reabsorbed over a 6 to 8 week period.

This combination treatment is simple and non-invasive with minimal risk and recovery time. Most patients experience a mild “sunburn” feeling post treatment that quickly subsides. We follow up the treatment with a medical grade skin care regimen that lightens, stimulates and protects the cells.

Our goal is to help you successfully treat and manage your Melasma. On average, patients need 3 treatments given at 4 week intervals. This is followed by maintenance treatments as needed. Treatment packages are available to make this an affordable option.
