What are the benefits of Laser Resurfacing?
Lasers are gentle to deeper layers of skin, reducing the risk
of skin texture changes and allowing a short healing time. Also,
with lasers, your doctor can immediately visualize the effect
of the treatment giving greater control and maximizing benefits.
How does laser resurfacing work?
The Ultrapulse C02 laser emits a high-energy light beam in millisecond
bursts. These pulses control the laser's effects so that only
a precise layer of skin is vaporized with each pass. The laser
energy is delivered by a computerized scanner that can smooth
the skin surface and vaporize down the highly wrinkled areas.
During the healing phase, the body remodels the skin's natural
collagen and new healthy skin is formed. Skin tightening and firming
also occurs during the next 6 to 9 months.
What about the recovery?
You will
have swelling for several weeks after your treatment. Crusting
and weeping occurs during the first week. After 14 days, most
patients can return to work or social engagements. Moderate
redness is expected for
at least one to two weeks and will gradually fade over a one -
to three - month period. Cosmetics can be applied seven to 10 to
14
days after treatment, once the initial healing is complete.
What are the side effects of laser resurfacing?
The normal healing
process includes the 4-9 weeks of pink skin. Changes in skin
pigmentation can occur after laser resurfacing. The risk of actual
scarring with these lasers is extremely rare (less than 1%).
