non-ablative facial rejuvenation program. Sculptra™ is the first
in a new category of facial thickness and correction of
lost facial fat. Sculptra™ is an injectible form of
Poly-L Lactic acid which has been shown to promote the skin’s
own fibroblasts to create new collagen. This new natural
collagen will restore facial volume around the mouth and cheeks
and shape the chin and jaw line. Injectable Sculptra™ has
been used in over 30 countries world wide since 1999 in clinical
trials involving facial fat loss due to the treatment of HIV.
The recent FDA approval for use in HIV patients now enables
cosmetic dermatologists to perform this procedure safely as an
“off-label” office procedure. Since the Poly-L-lactic acid
is a safe, synthetic simple sugar that is biocompatible and
biodegradable, there is no need for allergy tests. A
series of 3 -5 injections are performed under topical anesthetic
at 4 to 6 weeks. Volumetric facial enhancement seen after
repeated Sculptra™ injections progress gradually over a 4 month
period. For most people, treatment results have been noted
to last for years, though touch-ups may be necessary over time.
