Ever notice how your cheekbones appear flattened and sunken or your lips smaller and surrounded by wrinkles? These are all due to a loss of volume in your facial structures due to aging. Fat pads shrink and descend, creating a flattened midface with prominent "parentheses" around the mouth. Even muscle and bone lose volume. A face-lift was the old way to address the extra skin that resulted from the loss of underlying volume, but the result is unnatural. Instead of restoring youthful contours, facelifts produce only a tighter looking aged face! At Olympic Dermatology our focus is on facial rejuvenation, and by using certain "volumizing" agents we can best restore your previous youthful appearance.
One type of filler we use contains Hyaluronic acid, a natural substance in your skin. These fillers include Restylane, Perlane, and Juvederm. These agents have unique properties that allow for optimal rejuvenation of the lips, cheek bones, "parentheses" around the mouth, and the hollows under the eye. They last up to one year and are extremely safe; since they are natural components of skin they have no allergic potential. Hyaluronic fillers have been proven safe and offer dramatic improvements in skin contour and smoothness without downtime.
Radiesse is another type of filler used at Olympic Dermatology. Radiesse is comprised of microspheres of calcium hydroxylapatite along with an aqueous gel. Calcium is a natural substance already found in the body, so Radiesse causes no allergic reactions or inflammation. Radiesse can be injected to reduce lines between the nose and mouth, diminish blemishes and facial scars, and restore natural contour of the cheeks. Radiesse can also be used for rejuvenation of the hands by replacing the volume lost through aging. You hands can once again look supple and have a more even texture and tone. Unlike other facial fillers, Radiesse can provide up to 12 to 18 months of rejuvenation, as it slowly dissolves and gradually is replaced by the body's own tissue.
These injections are done painlessly with topical and local anesthetics and people can generally resume normal activities quickly without downtime.
